Edo CP initiates quiz competition for policemen in Edo

Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Mr Olayinka Balogun, has disclosed plans to inaugurate an inter Area Command quiz competition for policemen in the state with a view to encouraging reading culture among policemen.

The CP who disclosed this to newsmen in Benin City yesterday, said it is the belief of the Inspector General of Police to ensure discipline and exposure in the police, just as he urged journalists to assist the police in the fight against crime.

According to him, "I want to do an inter Area Command quiz competition for policemen and I want you people (journalists) to anchor it. I want to encourage policemen to go and read and also afford the public to know more about the Police.

"When you tell someone you are going for an interview, you are telling him to go and read; he gets more enlightened and the Force will be the better for it.

"I started reading newspapers from primary school, which till date I still do. I encourage my children to read newspapers, and when I hear somebody ask about when an old news happened, I get turned off by such persons. And when a newspaper carries a story that is incorrect, I feel bad."

Calling for support from journalists in the state, the CP said, "The issue here is that journalists have a role to play in assisting the Police in crime fighting.

It demoralizes men of the Force who are there to tackle the problem of insecurity, when they see some of the reports.

"I want us to do it in the way we will be able to look ourselves in the face and know we have done our jobs well" he stated.
