She stated that her son was returning from an errand she had sent him with his younger brother when his assailant stabbed him several times in the neck with a broken bottle.

"I don’t know what my son who was an easy-going person might have done to warrant this wicked attack on him. He was peaceful and friendly with neighbours," she moaned.

The deceased’s younger brother corroborated the story. He said: "We were returning home when suddenly I saw the brother of the man who runs a viewing centre nearby behind my brother. Before I knew what was happening, he had stabbed my brother in the neck with a broken bottle. I screamed and ran home to inform my parents."

His scream, attracted a large crowd of football fans from the viewing centre who engaged in a free-for-all. The viewing centre was also brought down by the angry mob and fans.

A source said the assailant was arrested at Ajako bus stop, Shasha by four men but before he could be taken to the police station, he escaped. He has been on the run since then.

Two persons who were arrested in connection with the murder and taken to Afonka Police Station, Shasha, were later released by the police.A visit to Afonka Police Station, Mosalasi Bus Stop, where the matter was reported, the DPO was said to have gone out on official assignment, but a police source confirmed the incident.

He stated that the two suspects arrested in connection with the killing have been released.
