That’s strange. I’ve known Ethel for a while now and I’ve always thought she’s the daughter of late music legend Sunny Okosuns…but the family is now saying she’s not their father’s daughter.
Ethel Okosuns won the Miss Earth Nigeria pageant in 2005 and is currently the project director of Exquisite Face of Africa pageant. In an interview with Vanguard just last month, Ethel talked about growing up as Sunny Okosuns’ daughter and said she still missed her dad…
But the Okosuns family in a statement exclusively made available to Vanguard and signed by the singer’s son, Sidney Ehimare Okosuns disowned Ethel. The wrote:
“We wish to state categorically that Ms. Ethel is not our sibling. She is not the daughter of our father. Our father had four children: Sidney Okosuns, Michael Okosuns, Adesuwa Okosuns and Ebony Okosuns.
This is not the first time Ms. Ethel has … used our late father’s image and likeness as “name dropping” to achieve whatever affluence she seeks. She needs to stop identifying herself as the daughter of the Ozziddi great musician.
Years ago, Ms. Ethel as a teenager wondered into our Yaya Abatan home. Our parents ran a liberal attitude home, welcoming visitors and strangers to our sprawling Ogba Estate. Thus, our home was always busy with people from all walks of life.
Ms. Ethel walked into our home, pleaded with my dad that she wanted to sing and had no other place to live in Lagos. My parents welcome her to our compound, offered her unconditional food, shelter and love. She never left for several years. The generosity and kindness of providing her food and shelter does not give her automatic birth right to the Okosuns.”

A man and eight members of his family were attacked and killed in the early hours of this morning Thursday October 10th by men suspected to be cattle rustlers. The man identified as Tsok Gwom, who is a cattle rearer, lived in a community in the Bajin Kogi Forum District of Barkinladi LGA of Plateau State, was killed alongside his wife, his sister, one other woman, five children and the man’s neighbour.
Eyewitnesses said armed men numbering over 30 stormed the area around 2.00am and massacred the family. The gunshots they fire during the attack alerted vigilante members in the community who launched a reprisal attack, killing about 12 of the attackers.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations officer in Plateau, Felicia Anslem, said policemen have been deployed to the area.

Wayne Rooney has revealed he was unhappy at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson because he felt he was being played out of position.
Rooney says he was fed up with being played in midfield, but insists that he is now happy and settled under new manager David Moyes, who is fielding him up front.
Although Ferguson’s name was not mentioned as Rooney spoke of the frustrations he felt at being repeatedly selected out of position, it was clear the major difference at United this season is Moyes occupying the manager’s chair.
“You can clearly see I’m playing and I’m happy in my football,” said Rooney. “David Moyes has come in, he’s playing me up front, and I’m enjoying it.
“I’ve had no problem playing out of position in the past, but I’m a forward and I felt I deserved the right to play in my position.
“That wasn’t happening. Naturally I was a bit disappointed and maybe that affected some of the games I played because last season wasn’t my best.
“Everyone at the club knew where I wanted to play. Maybe I will play in midfield when I’m a bit older if I have lost my legs a bit but I didn’t want to play there.
“I’m not saying I am going to throw my arms up in the air and not do it if we were hanging on a bit in the last 10 minutes of a game and I got asked to drop back. But there came a point where I had to be a bit selfish for my own career.”
Rooney’s contractual situation – he has less than two years to run on his current deal – is also uncertain, and he stopped short of confirming he wants to stay at Old Trafford beyond this season.
“To be honest I’ve been settled all summer,” he said. “I know from the outside looking in it might not have seemed like that, but I have.
“I spoke with the people who matter at the club and we knew what we were doing. The club made that clear.
“My wife had a new child and I’ve been really happy. I’m not going to go on saying I wanted to stay or I wanted to leave.
“I just want to concentrate on my football. We’ll see what happens after that.”

According to a report by Punch, a 7year old boy led police to the smash of a Lagos kidnap syndicate that specializes in the kidnap of little children, weeks after he was kidnapped and released by them…

A university graduate and two other suspects were on Wednesday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command, following their arrest, by a tip off from a seven-year-old victim.
The graduate of Economics of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Gbenga Sholaja; Olalekan Benjamin and Samson Shomorin, who specialise in kidnapping little boys, were arrested by men of the Igando Police Division and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos.
The victim (name withheld) was said to have been held hostage at Benjamin’s father’s house at Ikotun, Lagos.
The child, who was later released after ransom was paid by his parents, was said to have memorised the house address where he was kept. It was the child who led police officers to the same house where Benjamin was arrested.

Deji Falae was the Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, and died in the Associated Airlines plane crash that occurred on Thursday October 3rd.
Friends held a candlelight procession for him this evening in Akure, Ondo state. The late politician would have turned 43 today. He was born 9th of October, 1970. May his soul rest in peace…amen.

The Police prosecutor, Cpl. Olasunkanmi Bamikole, said the accused were – Awotile Yemi (18), Ogundana Adesina (18), Jamiu Seun (18), Ogunleye Olumide (18), Daramola Damilola (19), and Omolayo Sunday (18).
He told the court that the accused were apprehended on September 30 at Agbanka Farm, Ilasa-Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area of the state.
Bamikole said the accused presented and conducted themselves as members of a proscribed society.
He said their offence contravened Section 64 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State. 2012.
However, their counsel, Mr. Taju Ahmed, urged the court to grant bail to his clients, pledging that they would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Patricia Taiwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N20, 000, with two sureties each in like sum.
She ruled that the sureties must be their parents and later adjourned the case to November 20 for further hearing.

A country where even the prime minister is not safe from kidnapping. Choi. Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan was kidnapped in the early hours of this morning from the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli by suspected former rebels who even took a pic of them with him and shared it online (inset). Mr Zeidan, who became Prime Minister just eleven months ago after living in exile for many years, was seized in what is believed to be retaliation for the capture by American forces of a wanted al-Qaeda-linked operative at the weekend, BBC reports.
“The head of the transitional government, Ali Zeidan, was taken to an unknown destination for unknown reasons,” a government statement posted on the prime minister’s Facebook site said.
Officials said that two “revolutionary brigades” were responsible for the kidnap – the “Operations Room of Revolutionaries” and the “Brigade for the Fight against Crime”. His current whereabout is unknown.
